History

The 7000 series was initially introduced to stopping services on Keio lines. Despite it looks completely different, traction and other equipment are based on 6000 series. At first, each unit consisted of five coaches, but soon became longer to six, eight and ten coaches.

The lifespan of Keio's rolling stock tends to be shorter than other major railway companies, but the 7000 series have been used longer than its predecessors. A major refurbishment and traction replacement took place in 2001-10.

Following the introduction of 5000 series, some 7000 series units have been scrapped.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The 7000 series are widely used on the entire Keio network, including small branch lines but excluding Inokashira Line. Those on main line network form of up to ten coaches, and some of them are coupled with 9000 series. Those on small branch lines are formed of two coaches, and compatible with driver-only operation.

The series is still common on Keio lines, but it is hard to believe that they are operational even in the 2030s.
