History
There are three types but essentially the same. The 2020 series is for the Den-en-toshi Line and formed of ten coaches, the 3020 series is for the Meguro Line with eight coaches, and the 6020 series is for the Oimachi Line with five or seven coaches. The first two types are also used for through-services towards the underground in Tokyo.
The 2020 series was first introduced to the Den-en-toshi Line in 2018, not only to replace 8500 series but also to prepare for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and the 100th anniversary of Tokyu (established in 1922). Despite the appearance, the 2020 series is based on JR East E235 series to reduce production costs. Needless to say, the 2020 series was designed for through-services to the Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line and Tobu lines.
In the same year, Tokyu introduced two seven-car units of the 6020 series, to increase capacity of express services on the Oimachi Line. However, just two days before they entered passenger service, Tokyu announced that it would insert "Q Seat" carriage, an all-reserved coach with transverse seating for commuters. Each trainset was rearranged to six standard coaches and one "Q Seat" carriage just seven months after the introduction, and redundant standard coaches were inserted to the 2020 series units. In 2025, Tokyu resumed introducing the 6020 series to the Oimachi Line in 2025, which is formed of five coaches for stopping service this time to replace 9000 series and 9020 series.
In 2019, three 3020 series units were delivered to the Meguro Line. They were initially formed of six coaches, but two intermediate coaches were inserted by 2022. They have been used for through-services to the Tokyo Metro Namboku, Saitama Railway and Toei Mita Lines, as well as the Sotetsu network.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
To sum up, the 2020 series are used for the Den-en-toshi, Hanzomon, Tobu Nikko and Isesaki Lines (Chūō-rinkan - Minami-kurihashi or Kuki). The 3020 series are used for the Meguro and Shin-Yokohama Lines as well as Sotetsu, Tokyo Namboku, Saitama Railway and Mita Lines. The 6020 series are used for the Oimachi Line and some express services on the Den-en-toshi Lines.
