History
The 2000 series was introduced to Den-en-toshi Line, to increase frequency of services of the Line. It was based on 9000 series, but traction and motors were different. Three ten-carriage units were delivered in total, but the third unit was used on Toyoko Line in 1993 as a temporary measure for several months. All units were designed for through-services to Tokyo Metro Hanzomon Line.
When Hanzomon Line was extended to Oshiage and through-services towards Tobu lines commenced in 2003, however, the 2000 series were not designated for the new services, as Tobu declined using them because of small number of units. Since then, the 2000 series had been used only on Den-en-toshi and Hanzomon Lines, mostly at peak times.
In 2019, all 2000 series units were superseded by 2020 series. They were rearranged to five-car units and reallocated to Oimachi Line. Tokyu renumbered them and now they are called the 9020 series.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 9020 series are mostly used for stopping services on Oimachi Line. Tokyu is going to replace them with new trains in 2025-27. At least one of them is likely to be sold to Seibu to replace 101 series, 2000 series and 4000 series trains.
