History
The 18000 series has been introduced to the Hanzomon Line to replace 8000 series. The design of the 18000 series is based on 17000 series so that it would reduce costs of maintenance in the future. There are several improvements, such as bogies compatible with both fast speed above ground and tight curves on the underground and braking systems that reduce the speed smoothly when raining.
Each unit is formed of ten coaches like other trains on the Hanzomon Line. The first trainset entered service in 2021 after a year-long training and tests.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 18000 series is used on the Hanzomon Line including through-services to the Tokyu Den-en-toshi, Tobu Nikko and Isesaki Lines. It mostly runs as Express or Semi Express on the Tobu lines.
