History

The 17000 series has been introduced to Fukutoshin and Ikebukuro Lines to replace 7000 series. There are eight and ten-carriage units, and each of them has enhanced air conditioning, larger seating, lower floor level making trains more accessible, and of course, more environmentally friendly than its predecessors.

The first unit entered service in 2021, after a year-long training conducted by Tokyo Metro and other companies which use the series as parts of through-services.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The 17000 series has been used on Fukutoshin and Yurakucho Lines, as well as through-services towards Seibu Ikebukuro, Tobu Tojo, Tokyu Toyoko and Minatomirai Lines. It can run Tokyu Shin-Yokohama Line but no regular service has been set so far. At present, the series is not compatible with Sotetsu lines.
