History

The 16000 series was introduced to Chiyoda Line, replacing all 6000 series and 06 series. There are 37 ten-carriage units in total, and the first five units have a gangway in the middle of the front end, while others have on the left side as drivers complained about comfortability in the driver's room. The 16000 series has many new features, such as energy-saving traction, motors and braking systems.

17th - 37th units have different traction and motors, which are even more environmentally friendly than the 1st - 16th units. Livery of the newer units is slightly different from that of the first 16 units.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The 16000 series trains are used on Chiyoda Line as well as through-services towards JR Joban Line (Local) and Odakyu lines.
