History

The 06 and 07 series were developed by Teito Rapid Transit Authority (also known as Eidan). They were essentially the same with a few exceptions, like brake performance and colour of seating. A ten-carriage unit of the 06 series and six ten-car units of the 07 series were delivered in total. They were the first train in Japan to have insulated-gate bipolar transistors to control voltage.

The 06 series was introduced to Chiyoda Line due to increase in demand. It was initially used for through-services towards JR Joban Line, and later Odakyu lines as well. It suffered from technical issues and thus it was taken out of service in 2015. As Tokyo Metro was about to install platform edge doors at stations, which were incompatible with the 06 series, the company withdrew the 06 series rather than fixing it.

The 07 series was introduced to Yurakucho Line when Seibu Yurakucho Line was extended and through-services started, and when Yurakucho New Line (rearranged to a part of Fukutoshin Line in 2008). Therefore, the 07 series had yellow and black bands. They were used on Yurakucho Line including through-services towards Seibu Ikebukuro and Tobu Tojo Lines. However, all of them were taken out of service before Fukutoshin Line was opened in 2008, as the 07 series was not compatible with platform edge doors.

Redundant 07 series were reallocated to Tozai Line with blue bands in 2006-09. One unit was temporarily used on Chiyoda Line with blue bands in 2008 due to a train shortage. In 2018-21, all 07 series trainsets were refurbished.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The 07 series is used on Tozai Line including through-services towards JR Chuo and Sobu Lines (as far as Mitaka and Tsudanuma, respectively) and Toyo Rapid Line. Platform edge doors at Tozai Line stations are compatible with the 07 series so that they are likely to remain in service until the 2030s.
