History
The 2000 series is the second rolling stock for Yokohama New Transit, now known as Yokohama Seaside Line Co,. Ltd. The company introduced 16 five-carriage units in 2011-14 to replace 1000 series, and one in 2019 as Kanazawa-Hakkei station was relocated. Moreover, another unit was delivered after a train crash at Shin-Sugita station in the same year.
Unlike its predecessor, the 2000 series is made of stainless-steel that has a corrosion-resistant feature. Its triangle patterns were designed by academic staff at Tama Art University. The 2000 series has not only longitudinal but also transverse seating, though the latter one is not comfortable because it is simply too small.
Its numbering has been confusing: the very first unit is actually numbered "the 31st unit" to avoid duplication of numbers while the 1000 series was still in service. The 46th unit is painted black and red, and the 48th unit is painted blue with bubble patterns.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
All 18 units have been used for Kanazawa Seaside line services. It has been controlled automatically, but sometimes controlled by crew for a training purpose.
