History
The 1000 series was the first rolling stock for Yokohama New Transit, which is known as Yokohama Seaside Line Co., Ltd. As an automated guideway transit vehicle, each carriage was just eight metres (26 ft 3 in). All trains had been controlled by crew at first, but the company adopted fully automatic operation in 1994.
17 five-car units in total were delivered when Kanazawa Seaside line opened in 1989. The 17th unit was designated as a special unit so that it had been painted different to other units. All except the 7th unit were refurbished in 2001-05 as they were damaged by salt corrosion, while the 7th unit was demolished in 2007. Other units were replaced with 2000 series in 2011-14, a year earlier than initially planned due to poor condition of the remaining 1000 series.
Photos
The 17th unit had been painted green, which was highly popular among children in the area served.
The 15th unit was decorated with pictures in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the line.
