History
The 7700 series is, in some ways, the newest rolling stock for Arakawa Line. In the mid-2010s, Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation was replacing 7000 series with new trains, but the Bureau found that condition of bodies and air-conditioning of the 7000 series was better than expected. Hence, the Bureau stopped introducing 8900 series and decided to rebuild the 7000 series.
The 7700 series consists of bogies and traction of 8900 series, bodies and air-conditioning of the 7000 series, and brand new seats. According to the Bureau, rebuilding a 7700 series car costed 130 million yen (approx. $1.2 million), 28% cheaper than an 8900 series car.
