History
The 5500 series was introduced to Asakusa Line to replace 5300 series and raise maximum speed of services. Its livery is based on Kumadori, a makeup worn by kabuki (traditional Japanese dance-drama) actors, and accommodation is also oriental with full of traditional patterns and pictures. 27 eight-carriage units were delivered in total, enough to replace all 5300 series units.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 5500 series is used not only on Asakusa Line but also for through-services to Keikyu (as far as Misakiguchi and Zushi Hayama), Keisei and Hokuso lines as far as Narita Airport. It has also been used for Access Express since 2022.
