History
The 300 series is the first rolling stock for Nippori-Toneri Liner. Its exterior design is based on Yurikamome 7000 series (in service: 1995-2020) so that the 300 series looks older than the actual age. 16 five-carriage units were introduced by 2011, but one of them was severely damaged by an earthquake in October 2021, and it is highly unlikely to be reinstated.
Despite being a type of commuter train for Tokyo, all units have transverse seating. Generally speaking, longitudinal seating allows trains to have more passengers as there is more standing spaces, but Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation designed the train to have fewer passengers onboard due to weight limit on certain bridges. Newer trains are lighter than the 300 series so that capacity limit has been eased.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
Gradually decreasing, and 12 out of 16 units of the 300 series will be replaced with 330 series by March 2025.
