History

The 13000 series was introduced to Hibiya Line as a part of a modernisation programme. Before 2019, Hibiya Line had been served by 03 series, some of which had five sets of doors per carriage. They surely contributed to ease congestion, but they were incompatible with platform edge doors that were due to be deployed.

Each carriage of the 03 series was 18 metres (60 ft) long with three or five sets of doors, but that of the 13000 series is 20 metres (66 ft) long with four sets of doors. A 13000 series unit consists of seven coaches while the 03 series was eight.

Tobu introduced 70000 series to Hibiya Line at the same time, which is based on the 13000 series.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The 13000 series rains are used on Hibiya Line and through-services to Tobu Nikko and Isesaki Lines. They always run as stopping service on Tobu lines. Their major overhaul has been carried out at Saginuma Depot on Tokyu Den-en-toshi Line so that they can also run Tokyu lines.
