History

The 20000 series Resort Super Express was a Romancecar train type developed for through-service to JR Gotemba Line. Odakyu designed it in accordance with an agreement regarding the through-service, which required the same accommodation as JR Central 371 series. Hence, the RSE was different from other Romancecar trains, as there was no observation carriage, and instead there were double-decker intermediate carriages with first class seating. Two seven-units were introduced to Limited Express Asagiri (Shinjuku - Numazu via Odakyu and JR Gotemba lines).

The RSE trains had been mostly used on Asagiri services, as well as services towards Hakone-Yumoto. First class seating was called "Super Seat" on Odakyu, while "Green Car" on JR Gotemba Line. Unlike the JR Central 371 series, the RSE never entered other JR line, except once as a rail tour towards Minobu Line.

The RSE trains were withdrawn in 2012, following the introduction of 60000 series MSE. Just after the retirement, Fujikyu Railway purchased a unit, shortened to three coaches and remaned 8000 series. It entered service in 2014.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The Fujikyu 8000 series is used for Fujisan Express (Otsuki - Kawaguchiko).
