History
This article is about 9020, 9820 and 6820 series.
The 9020 series group is a part of Series 21 trains. It looks almost identical to 5820 series, but the 9020 series and relevant types are ordinary commuter trains with longitudinal seating, and with no toilet onboard. All units can join to other trains as their braking systems are compatible with those of older trains.
The 9020 series is formed of two coaches, while the 9820 series is formed of six. They were introduced to Nara and Osaka Lines including relevant branch lines, and they are compatible with through-services towards Hanshin lines.
Meanwhile, the 6820 series was introduced to Minami-Osaka and Yoshino Lines including relevant branch lines. Kintetsu ordered two two-carriage units and replaced 6000 series New Rabbit Car in 2002. Though Minami-Osaka-Line network has a plenty of extremely old commuter trains, Kintetsu has not introduced any new train since then.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 9020 and 9820 series are used on Namba, Osaka, Nara, Kyoto, Kashihara and Tenri Lines, as well as through-services to Hanshin lines. In addition, they occasionally run Toba and Yamada Lines.
The 6820 series runs Minami-Osaka, Gose, Nagano and Yoshino Lines, but it is not easy for strangers to find it running as there are only two units. The series is not used on Domyoji Line since it is not compatible with driver-only operation.
