History

The Keikyu 600 series was introduced to limited express services on the Keikyu lines, as well as through-services to the Toei Asakusa and Keisei lines. The exterior was designed from scratch, but traction is based on what is used on 1500 series (variant 1700). The 600 series units initially had transverse seating unlike other trains on underground, as the company pursued comfortability. Some seats could be stowed during peak hours, to secure more space for passengers. However, such a new feature was so unsuccessful as it was unreliable and exacerbated congestion that they were later removed.

They were refurbished in 2009-14, and seating has mostly been replaced with ordinary longitudinal one. They can form up to 12 coaches with 1500 series, 2100 series and 1000 series.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

There are eight 8-carriage units and six 4-car units. Those with eight coaches are used for limited express on the Keikyu lines and through-services to the Toei Asakusa Line, Keisei and Hokuso including Access Express (Narita Airport - Haneda Airport). Those with four coaches are used on the entire Keikyu lines, but mostly on the Daishi Line.

The 4-car units are mostly used for the Daishi Line as well as a few services on the Keikyu Main Line.

Photos

The 600 series before refurbishment looked a little different, and it was easier to distinguish it from the 1000 series.

An eight-car unit has been painted blue since 2005, and called "KEIKYU BLUE SKY TRAIN".
