History
The 2100 series was introduced as a commemoration of the 100th anniversary of Keikyu, and the number "2100" stems from the 21st century. The body design is based on 600 series, but the 2100 series have transverse seating which can be turned over automatically, and two sets of doors per carriage. Each units consists of eight coaches, but can be coupled with 1500 series, 600 series or 1000 series (Ⅱ) to form 12 coaches. The 2100 series can run the underground, but Tokyo Metropolitan Bureau of Transportation refused them to enter service on Toei Asakusa Line, as there are fewer doors than other trains.
The most distinctive feature was its traction, using Siemen's inverters. Like Taurus locomotives in Austria, the 2100 series produced a melody when departing. However, they were replaced with domestic inverters by 2015, as maintenance staffs had been struggling to deal with them.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 2100 series are mainly used on limited express services between Sengakuji and Misakiguchi. However, as the capacity is smaller than other commuter trains, they are not used in the morning and in the evening. Instead, they are used on Morning Wing and Evening Wing services during the peak hours on weekdays.
Photos
The Unit 2157 had been painted blue in 2005-15, and named "KEIKYU BLUE SKY TRAIN", along with another unit of the 600 series.
From 2015, the Unit 2133 has been painted blue instead. In 2016, it became Pukuaiche livery of Taiwan Railways Administration for several months.
