History
The 700 series were converted from Keio 5000 series, along with Fujikyu 1000 series and Kotoden 1100 series. There are two-carriage units and single-ended carriages, and they can be formed of three or four coaches as well. The 700 series was introduced to Iyotetsu suburban rail network to replace old trains built in the 1920-40s. The company installed air-conditioners on all 700 series carriages.
The 700 series trains were initially painted beige and red, but soon repainted beige with orange bands. Today, all carriages are orange.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 700 series is used on the entire suburban rail network of Iyotetsu. All existing units are due to be replaced with newer trains in 2025-27.
