History
The 5000 series was developed as a light-rail vehicle type, though introduced to the tram network. Since its predecessor 2100 series was unsuccessful, the 5000 series is a little larger than the 2100 series while accessible to those with disabilities.
Unlike other Iyotetsu trams, the 5000 series has been painted orange only since the very beginning.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 5000 series is used on the entire tram network in Matsuyama city except Honmachi Line (Route 6). The company plans to introduce 16 cars in total by March 2025.
