History

The 2100 series was introduced to replace old trams and make services more accessible. It is a type of low-floor tram, but it made installing motors, traction and other equipment difficult to install. Hence, a 2100 series tram is more accessible but far smaller than old trams (the capacity of the 2100 series is 47 passengers while 50 series is capable of 80). Therefore, replacing old trams with the 2100 series worsened congestion.

All 2100 series were initially painted orange and white, but became simple orange livery by 2018.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The 2100 series is used on the entire tram network in Matsuyama city. Honmachi Line (Route 6) services are mostly provided by them.
