History
The Mo 501 series was introduced by Nankai to tram lines in Osaka, to replace old trams built in the 1920s. The Mo 501 series had many new features not least traction, bogies and motors. The new technologies made the series more comfortable than other trams at that time, but it costed considerably. That is why, Nankai later shifted to Mo 351 series with older equipment.
The Mo 501 series ran Hirano Line formed of two cars until 1961. All five cars have had air-conditioning since 1986, and it is said that not a few passengers waited for this train in summer. Despite being more than 65 years old, all cars have been operational.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The Mo 501 series has been used on the entire Hankai network.
