History
The 9100 series is based on Keisei 3700 series, though looks very different. Two eight-carriage units were introduced when Hokuso Line (the section formerly called Chiba Newtown Line) was extended from Chiba Newtown Chuo to Inzai-Makinohara. Another unit entered service in 2000 when the Line was extended again to Imba nihon-idai.
The series is called C-Flyer, and C stands for Chiba-Newtown, Comfortable, Clean and Culture. Each unit had payphones until 1997 despite being a commuter train, but they could not use while the train was running Asakusa Line (underground).
When HUDC was reorganised to Urban Renaissance Agency in 2004, a new company Chiba Newtown Railway was established, and they succeeded all rolling stock, tracks and other facilities, but the 9100 series trains have still been managed by Hokuso.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 9100 series runs on Hokuso Line between Keisei-Takasago and Imba nihon-idai, as well as through-services to Keisei, Toei Asakusa and Keikyu line as far as Nishi-magome or Haneda Airport.
