History
The 7000 series is a series of suburban train for Yosan Line. There are two categories: type 7000, which is double-ended and has motors and traction; and type 7100, which is single-ended without power. The 7000 series was designed for stopping services with a few passengers so that all carriages are compatible with driver-only operation.
They have been used only in the island of Shikoku, as they cannot be used for passenger services towards Great Seto Bridge because of a lack of toilet. The 7000 series can be formed of up to five coaches, not only with 7000 series carriages but also 6000 series and 7200 series.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 7000 series is used widely in Takamatsu and Matsuyama areas. To be specific, stopping and rapid services on Dosan Line (Tadotsu - Kotohira) and Yosan Line (Takamatsu - Iyoshi via Matsuyama). Some stopping services are operated without a conductor (driver-only operation).
