History

The 6000 series was a type of suburban train. Its front end looks like that of 211 series, but other things - seating, doors, traction and braking systems - are completely different. The traction is inverter-controlled one, the same as that of 8000 series.

JR Shikoku introduced two three-carriage units to stopping services on Honshi-Bisan (also known as Seto-Ohashi Line) and Yosan Lines (Okayama - Kan-onji) in 1996. The company intended to order more, but gave up because of lack of funding. They had been used on Dosan and Yosan Lines only since 2019.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

Two 6000 series units are used for stopping and rapid services on Dosan Line between Tadotsu and Kotohira, and Yosan Line between Takamatsu and Iyo-Saijo. They always run in accordance with fixed schedules. The 6000 series can form four coaches with a 7000 series carriage.
