History
Class EH200 was introduced to freight trains on Chuo Main, Shinonoi and Shin-etsu Main Lines, where double-headed Class EF64 were in use to climb mountains. The EH200s also entered service on Joetsu and Takasaki Lines, replacing, again, the EF64s.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The Class EH200 is used on Chuo Main Line (eastern part including Greater Tokyo), Shin-etsu Main and Shinonoi Lines in Nagano Prefecture (with a few towards Shinano Railway), Joetsu and Takasaki Lines. Some also run Negishi Line. JR Freight plans to use them on the western part of Chuo Main Line (towards Nagoya area), replacing more Class EF64s in the near future.
