History
Class EH200 is a type of DC electric locomotive developed by JR Freight. It was introduced to freight trains on Chuo Main, Shinonoi and Shin-etsu Main Lines as well as Joetsu and Takasaki Lines, where two Class EF64 locomotives per train were in use to climb mountains. Hence, the EH200 is larger than Class EF200, which had a similar name.
Since the Class EH200 was designed for specific work mentioned above, not so many locomotives were produced in total. Compared to Class EF210, services hauled by the Class EH200 is limited.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The Class EH200 is used on Chuo Main Line (both the eastern part including the Greater Tokyo Area and the western part including Nagoya area), Shin-etsu Main and Shinonoi Lines in Nagano Prefecture (with a few towards Shinano Railway), Joetsu and Takasaki Lines. Some also run Negishi Line.
