History
Strictly speaking, the Y500 series is not owned by Tokyu but Yokohama Minatomirai Railway. Six eight-carriage units entered service when Minatomirai Line was opened in 2004. Since all but one services on Minatomirai Line are through-services to Tokyu Toyoko Line (or even farther), the Y500 series is almost identical to Tokyu 5000 series (5050 series), but there are a few minor differences inside carriages.
In 2017, a unit was scrapped after being collided with another train at a Toyoko Line station during a heavy snow. Tokyu transferred a 5050 series unit as a compensation.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
Six units of the Y500 series have been used on Minatomirai and Tokyu Toyoko Lines (mostly stopping and express services), as well as through-services to Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin, Seibu and Tobu lines (as far as Hanno and Shiki, respectively).
