History
The 71-000 series ("seventy-one thousand series") is the second rolling stock that Tokyo Waterfront Railway (Tokyo Rinkai Kosoku Tetsudo) introduced to the Rinkai Line. It is based on JR East E233 series, which is not the latest but a reliable type of train. Just like its predecessor 70-000 series today, each unit consists of 10 coaches. The width of 71-000 series carriage is slightly wider than the 70-000 series to ease congestion (although just).
The 71-000 series has been also used for through-services towards the JR Saikyo and Kawagoe Lines.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 71-000 series is used on the Rinkai Line ↔ the JR Saikyo Line ↔ the JR Kawagoe Line route. It never runs between Osaki and Hazawa Yokohama-Kokudai because it is not copatible with Sotetsu facilities.
Tokyo Waterfront Railway plans to introduce eight ten-car units in total by financial year 2027, replacing all 70-000 series.
