TRTA 02 series

History

The 02 series was introduced by Teito Rapid Transit Authority (TRTA, also known as Eidan) to the Marunouchi Line. It was based on 01 series for the Ginza Line. 53 six-carriage units (for main line) and six three-car units (for branch line) were built. Those introduced in the first two years had no air-conditioning, but soon installed.

Tokyo Metro refurbished the first 19 units in 2009-13, but later found that replacing them with brand new trains would cost less. Withdrawal commenced in 2018 as the 02 series was not compatible with new signalling system. All three-car units for the Honancho branch line were withdrawn in 2022 and others followed them within two years.
