History

The 1000 series was introduced to Ginza Line, replacing 01 series. Its exterior design resembles that of Tokyo Underground Railway 1000 series (in service: 1927-68), the very first underground train in Asia. The accommodation of the Tokyo Metro 1000 series is, needless to say, the latest one with designated wheelchair areas, enhanced air conditioning and information devices.

40 six-carriage units were introduced in total, and the last two units are slightly different accommodation, which is more like the train in the 1920s. These two "special units" were used for a little rail tour commemorating the 90th anniversary of underground in Japan.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The 1000 series is used on Ginza Line. Major overhaul work is taken place at Nakano Depot on Marunouchi Line so that the 1000 series sometimes runs there as empty coaching stock.
