History

The N100 series is a type of limited express developed by Tobu, replacing 100 series SPACIA. Nikko and Kinugawa areas have been popular for tourists for decades but nobody could not deny their decline in these days. As a result, the ridership of Tobu limited express services were also gradually decreasing. Tobu envisaged that a brand new train would change the downward trend. Each unit is formed of six coaches and two units entered into service in July 2023.

The train is painted white just like "gofun", a pigment made from shell that is also used for pillars of Yomeimon gate of Nikko Toshogu Shrine. Windows of front coaches are also modelled after traditional artfacts in the region. There are six types of accommodation in total: standard seats, "premium seats", "box seats" (semi-compartment), "cockpit lounge" seats, compartments and "cockpit suite" rooms. Special fares are applied to all of them and the cockpit suite is the most expensive one.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The N100 series is used only for Limited Express SPACIA X that run between Asakusa and Tobu-nikko or Kinugawa-onsen.
