History
The 9000 series is a type of commuter train for through-services to the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin and Yurakucho Lines. Ten 10-carriage units have been allocated to the Tojo Line, and all but one are mainly used on the through-services. Tobu developed the series as eco-friendly, simple and less costly than 8000 series. The body is made of stainless-steel, for the first time for Tobu. The last two units have inverter-controlled traction.
Nine units in total are used on various through-services as described below. The first unit was taken out of the through-services in 2010, and it had been allocated only to the Tojo Line services until its demise in 2023.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
All except the first unit have been used on the Tojo Line and through-services towards the Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin and Yurakucho Lines as well as the Tokyu Toyoko and Minatomirai Lines. Tobu is going to replace the remaining units with brand new 90000 series from 2026.
