History
The 9000 series was introduced along with 8000 series, though manufacturers are different (the 9000 series trains were built by Tokyu Car Corporation). Accommodation is based on that of the 8000 series but slightly different. Seven ten-carriage units were introduced in total, and all but one unit were repainted white with blue and orange bands in 2007-14.
In 2016-19, they were dramatically refurbished and repainted dark blue (which is officially called YOKOHAMA NAVYBLUE). The refurbishment programme was successful, and Sotetsu has been refurbishing other types as well.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 9000 series trains are used on the entire network, but not regularly on Sotetsu Shin-Yokohama Line. The series is not used for through-services towards JR or Tokyu lines either. The company has a plan to replace all 9000 series units by around 2030.
