Sotetsu 11000 series

History

The 11000 series is almost identical to JR East E233 series (commuter-train group). Five ten-carriage units were delivered by 2013. Sotetsu planned to use them for through-services towards Tokyo via JR, but the company revised the plan as converting them would be more costly than initially estimated.

The series has been designated as Sonyan Train, a unit with full of its mascot characters, since 2014. Unit No. 11003 or 11004 is covered with pictures and its design changes every year.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

All units are used on the entire Sotetsu lines, but not regularly on the Shin-Yokohama Line.

There are 10000 series units which look the same as the 11000 series. This is due to an incomplete refurbishment of the 10000 series.
