History
The 8800 series was the first train in Kanto region to have inverter-controlled traction (except some experimental trains). Twelve eight-carriage units were introduced in total, but all of them were rearranged to 16 six-car units by 2013, and some intermediate carriages were converted to front carriages.
They were used for through-services to Hokuso Line until 1992. Instead, they have been used for through-services to Keisei Chiba Line since 2006. As Shin-Keisei will be dissolved and merged with Keisei, the existing fleets will be acqured by Keisei on 1 April 2025.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 8800 series trains are used on Matsudo and Chiba Lines. Some of them are due to be replaced with 3200 series within a few years.
