History
The 6000 series was developed for through-services towards Tokyo Metro Yurakucho Line. Unlike its predecessors, the 6000 series is not painted yellow, and inverter-controlled traction was adopted. 25 ten-carriage units were introduced to Seibu Shinjuku and Ikebukuro Lines. Bodies of those introduced before 1995 are made of stainless-steel, while others are made of aluminium.
All but two units were converted and their front ends were repainted white as through-services towards Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin Line started. Since 2013, they have been used for through-services to Tokyu Toyoko Line and Minatomirai Line as well. The other two units are allocated to Seibu Shinjuku Line, and they had been known for being left unrefurbished (i.e. unchanged since the introduction) until 2023, but their traction was replaced with new one.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 6000 series are used on Ikebukuro, Sayama and Seibu Yurakucho Lines, as well as through-services to Tokyo Metro Yurakucho, Fukutoshin, Tokyu Toyoko and Minatomirai Lines. In addition, some Seibu Shinjuku and Haijima Lines services are also provided by the 6000 series.
Tokyu expanded its network towards Shin-Yokohama in 2023, but Seibu 6000 series does not run the new line.
