History
According to Seibu, the 20000 series is a "simple & clean" train. Eight eight and ten-carriage units were introduced to Seibu Shinjuku and Ikebukuro Lines. It is essentially one of the first A-train of Hitachi. The manufacturer later launched A-train brand, which has been successful not only in Japan but also South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and the United Kingdom.
The 20000 series trains were initially introduced to Ikebukuro Line, but later allocated to Seibu Shinjuku Line as well. Since all units are formed of either eight or ten coaches, they do not run Seibu Tamagawa, Tamako, Seibuen and Kokubunji Lines.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 20000 series trains are mainly used on Seibu Shinjuku and Ikebukuro Lines, but not on branch lines mentioned above. Two units on Ikebukuro Line are decorated with characters of Galaxy Express 999 (famous manga comics) and advertisements of its own professional baseball team, respectively.
