History
This article is about the following types of trains: 6400, 6407, 6413, 6419, 6422, 6432 and 6620 series. They are types of commuter trains for Minami Osaka Line and other relevant lines.
Trains of 6400 series group are very similar to 1220 series and 1442 series families, they are designed for for lines with track gauge of 1,067 mm (3 ft 6 in). Like the 1220 and 1442 series, the 6400 series trains have inverter-controlled traction.
The 6400 series was introduced to replace old 6800 series (in service: 1957-93), which had no air-conditioning. The 6400 series can be classified further into 6407, 6413, 6419, 6422 and 6432 series, depending on bogies, devices for driver-only operation etc. 33 two-carriage units were built in total.
The 6620 series is formed of four coaches and introduced in 1993-97, replacing 6000 series. Seven units were delivered in total.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
They are used for various trains (from Express to stopping services) on Domyoji, Gose, Minami-Osaka, Nagano and Yoshino Lines. As of today, all Domyoji Line services are provided by 6432 series, which is compatible with driver-only operation.
