History
The 3220 series was designed for through-service towards Kyoto City Subway Karasuma Line. It was the first train to be branded as Series 21, which Kintetsu defines as the new standard train in the 21st century, but the front end is very different from other Series 21 trains.
Three six-carriage units were introduced as Karasuma Line frequency increased in 2000. Since the 3220 series is specialised in the through-service, it cannot join to other trains except in case of emergency.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 3220 series is used for Express, Semi-Express and stopping services on Kashihara, Kyoto, Namba, Nara and Tenri Lines as well as Kyoto City Subway Karasuma Line.
