History
The 3200 series is a type of commuter train developed for through-service to Kyoto City Subway Karasuma Line. It is not well-known that the current standard Kintetsu livery (maroon and silky white), which is very common on the entire network, was first adopted for the 3200 series.
Each unit was initially formed of four coaches, but became six when the through-service commenced in 1988. Kintetsu intended to use the series not only for the underground but also semi-fast services on its own network so that the 3200 series is capable of running at 105 km/h (65 mph), which was faster than other underground trains at that time.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 3200 series is used for Express, Semi-Express and stopping services on Kashihara, Kyoto, Namba, Nara and Tenri Lines as well as Kyoto City Subway Karasuma Line. The 3200 series is always operated independently as it cannot join to other types.
