History
The AE100 series was the second Skyliner train, introduced a year before Narita Airport stations were opened. It was Keisei's first train to have inverter-controlled traction, and same equipment was installed on 3700 series, a type of commuter train developed a year later. The AE100 series could run Toei Asakusa and Keikyu lines as Keisei planned through-service to and from Narita Airport, and potentially towards Haneda Airport, but they were never used on the underground.
When Narita Sky Access Line was opened in 2010 and new AE series was introduced, the AE100 series became redundant. Keisei reallocated some of them to Cityliner (Ueno - Narita Airport via Keisei Main Line), but the services were always empty. All units were withdrawn by 2016, marking the demise of the former-flagship of Keisei.
