History

The 7000 series was introduced to Sunzu Line. Izuhakone Railway envisaged through-services to JR Tokaido Main Line as far as Fuji or Atami, but JR Central did not allow such them. Thus, only two units were delivered and the Railway gave up introducing more.

Front coaches of each unit has three sets of doors, but an intermediate coach has two with better seating. Izuhakone Railway provided reserved-seat coach on its rapid services until when rapid services themselves were discontinued in 1998.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The 7000 series is used for stopping services on Sunzu Line. All seats are now non-reserved.
