History

The 1001 series is a part of Little Dancer developed by Alna, and it is the first low-floor tram on Hankai network. Hankai Tramway has been struggling with financial difficulties for decades so that Sakai City and the Transport Ministry subsidised the cost of introducing accessible new trains.

Unlike the predecessors, the 1001 series is formed of three short carriages. They have green, purple or blue bands, respectively. Since the cost was covered by Sakai City, the 1001 series was initially used only in the City (Abikomichi - Hamaderaekimae), but such a restriction has already been lifted.

Current Operations & Future Prospects

The 1001 series runs between Tennoji and Hamaderaekimae, and schedules are fixed. Due to short platforms, it never runs on Hankai Line between Ebisucho and Sumiyoshi.
