History
The 2700 series is a type of limited express diesel train, replacing 2000 series. JR Shikoku initially attempted to replace the 2000 series with 2600 series, but it was unsuccessful. Thus, the company developed the 2700 series with a conventional tilting system, which is more reliable.
The design of the 2700 series is similar to that of the 2600 series, but there are a few differences. Unlike the 2600s, the 2700s can be formed flexibly, from two to seven coaches. Tosa Kuroshio Railway introduced two carriages, and they are used and maintained by JR Shikoku along with other 2700 series.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The 2700 series is used for Limited Express Ashizuri (Kochi - Nakamura or Sukumo), Nampu (Okayama - Kochi), Shimanto (Takamatsu - Kochi) and Uzushio (Okayama - Tokushima).
