History
The E261 series is a unique limited express train type, consisted only of Green Cars (first class). Two eight-carriage units entered into Saphir Odoriko (Tokyo or Shinjuku - Izukyu-Shimoda) services in 2020. There are not only ordinary first-class seating, but also compartments for group of four/six, a "Premium Green Car" carriage and even a dining car. Most seats are based on those of E5 series bullet train.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The E261 series is only used on Saphir Odoriko services. Unlike the predecessor 251 series, the E261s are never allocated to services for commuters.
