History
The KiHa 25 series is a type of two-carriage diesel train, which looks the same as 313 series. The first five units (i.e. ten carriages) have transverse seating, but the rest of them have longitudinal one.
The KiHa 25 series entered service on the Taketoyo Line in 2011. They were introduced to the Taita and Takayama Main Lines in 2014, and the Kisei Main and Sangu Lines in 2015. When the Taketoyo Line was electrified in 2015, they were reallocated to the Taita and Takayama Main Lines. As the KiHa 25 series replaced all KiHa 40 series, JR Central no longer owns a diesel train introduced by Japanese National Railways. The KiHa 25 series also replaced almost of all KiHa 11 series.
Current Operations & Future Prospects
The KiHa 25 series trains are widely used on the Taita, Takayama, Kisei Main and Sangu Lines, but not regularly on the Meisho Line.
